Justification
The LAB was set up to enhance access to legal aid services to the vulnerable and this can only be achieved if the service is readily available and accessible by the masses. Enhancing access to legal aid services will help address persistent barriers that prevent vulnerable and indigent Malawians from obtaining justice. Many people from the poor and rural communities, especially women, and marginalized groups, face limited access to legal aid services due to distance, cost, and lack of awareness. This results in unmet legal needs, unresolved disputes, and increased vulnerability to human rights violations. Additionally, geographic and structural inequalities in service delivery, where legal aid services are concentrated in urban areas, leaves rural populations underserved. Enhancing access through establishing of legal aid offices in the districts to handle more cases will help bridge this gap and allow people who otherwise would not have recourse to remedies under the law and promote equitable service distribution. Improving access to legal aid services therefore supports fairness, accountability, and the rule of law, ensuring that all individuals regardless of their socio-economic status can exercise their rights and seek redress. Finally, the reform aligns with broader national development priorities by promoting inclusive justice, social equity, and good governance, which are essential for sustainable development
