Thematic area
Enhanced Public Sector Performance
Justification
Revenue Maximization and Growth: E-ticketing is a proven strategy for increasing locally generated revenue. Curbing Corruption and Financial Leakages: Manual ticketing systems are often prone to corruption, with significant funds sometimes diverted before reaching the council's accounts. Digital systems seal these "loopholes" by providing a transparent, traceable audit trail. Operational Efficiency: Digitalization streamlines the collection process, reducing administrative delays and the workload on manual collectors. It allows for real-time monitoring of collection activities, enabling the council to set targets and track performance accurately. Improved Transparency and Accountability: Automated systems provide reliable data that can be shared with the public, building trust between the council and taxpayers. This transparency is essential for encouraging vendors to comply with market fees, as they can more clearly see how their taxes are managed. Alignment with National Digital Goals: The intervention aligns with the Malawi Vision 2063, which identifies the ICT sector as a critical accelerator for a digital economy.
