Justification

Justification

The reform will strengthen Malawi’s agricultural extension and advisory services system in line with the National Agriculture Policy, National Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services Policy, Malawi 2063 and the District Agricultural Extension Services System (DAESS). The reform seeks to improve access to quality extension services through recruitment and deployment of frontline extension personnel, continuous capacity development, provision of mobility and ICT support, and strengthening research-extension-farmer linkages.

Agricultural technologies generated by research institutions shall be validated, adapted, packaged and disseminated through a structured technology transfer pathway involving Subject Matter Specialists, Agricultural Extension Development Officers (AEDOS) and Assistant Agricultural Extension Development Officers (AAEDOS), producer or farmer organizations, demonstration plots, farmer field schools, lead farmers, and digital advisory platforms. The reform will enhance technology adoption, productivity growth, commercialization, climate resilience and food security among farming households.
