Justification

Justification

For LAB officers to effectively carry out their duties in ensuring access to justice for the vulnerable and indigent persons, there is need to equip them with necessary knowledge, skills, and professional capacity to boost their competency. Building the capacity of advocates and legal aid officers in court advocacy and procedures, drafting of legal documents, alternative disputes and resolution methods (ADR) and general client management practices will contribute to effective performance and quality service delivery. Additionally, building the capacity of support staff in different areas of expertise will be key to ensuring excellent provision of legal aid services. Furthermore, LAB faces challenges of inadequate staffing which exerts pressure on the workload handled by the existing staff. Increasing the number of staff will improve service quality and efficiency and achieve delivering of better legal aid services effectively.
